Is there a reason why there are scratches on my Metal Signs?

There is not a mini catalog in my Memory Planner. Is there a reason for this?

There is no mini catalog and it should not have been printed on the Memory Planner front label. The KFD Catalog section in the Memory Planner was intended for scrapbookers to make notes on what Karen Foster Design new products they must have after visiting their LSS or seeing them at www.karenfosterdesign.com - not an acutal printed catalog. The problem occurred from a translation error between the U.S. and China. Sorry!

If I do not put my page with rub-ons in a page protector, how can I ensure the rub-ons stay on?
If you are using rub-ons on papercraft projects or calendars, the best way to ensure the rub-ons do not peel off is to use a non-acetone spray to seal the project.  We recommend Krylon Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Glaze or Kylon Low Odor Clear Finish.  Both are made to spray on paper and contain no acetone.  It needs to be a non-acetone spray as acetone will eat the rub-ons.  Note:  the spray may change the paper a shade darker and ensure you spray project before applying pictures.

How can I make sure that my Calendar Creations Rub-ons are secure?
After rubbing on an image from the Calendar Creations Rub-ons, make sure to burnish the image to secure it to your layout or project. To burnish your rub-on, place the backing paper over the transferred image and rub the image with the long edge of the transfer stick. This will eliminate any air bubbles and will ensure that the image has transferred completely.

If you are using the rub-ons on surfaces other than paper, you can seal the image with an acid-free varnish for protection from frequent handling.

What is the best way to use the Karen Foster Design rub-ons?

We recommend that you follow the instructions on the back of the rub-on package.  Especially important is to cut out the image that you want to transfer before rubbing it on.  This will prevent transferring more than the desired image.  Also, try the rub-ons on a variety of surfaces including paper, cardstock, wood, plastic, metal and ceramic – surfaces other than paper can be sealed with an acid-free varnish for protection from frequent handling.

What if I’m having a hard time getting the image to transfer?

Each set of rub-ons includes a transfer stick.  Be sure to work on a hard surface and rub with the transfer stick using even strokes repeatedly until the rub-on sheet lightens.  You may need to rub over a particular area a few times to get the image to transfer.

How do I use the 12” x 12” Rub-On Overlays?
Rub-On Overlays are great fun!  They look like an overlay but work like a rub-on!  You can use them two different ways - simply use cardstock, a piece of patterned paper and your favorite picture.  Just transfer the entire rub-on over the project, or use the individual elements from the rub-on overlay to make the project look fabulous.

How do I set Karen Foster Design Jumbo Eyelets?
Unfortunately we no longer carry the Jumbo Punch & Eyelet Setter Adapter tip, but you can set Jumbo Eyelets with a universal eyelet setter. The universal eyelet setter has a cone shaped tip that will allow you to set almost any size eyelet.

I just bought the new Snap-Stamps and want to know any tips or tricks to using them.
The new Snap-Stamps are great fun and are ideal to create perfectly aligned words and numbers.  First, be sure to use our Deluxe Double-Decker Ink Pads or Long Double-Decker Ink Pads to get a variety of colors and perfectly sized ink pad for dipping your words after they are stamped together.  And, if you are trying for a solid impression, ink the stamp heavily, or, if you want a worn or distressed look, ink the stamp with less ink.

Is there a reason the rubber is removable on the Snap-Stamps?
Yes!  For your creative convenience, the rubber part of the stamp is not glued on so you can remove the rubber for perfect spacing when spelling a phrase or sentence.  Also, this makes cleaning the rubber a breeze!   (NOTE:  make sure you put the rubber back correctly on the snap stamp holder so you don’t mix up your alphabet!)

I tried to clean off the rubber on my Snap-Stamps and my ink seems to have stained the rubber.
Some ink pad colors are so intense that that after you have stamped and cleaned the stamp there may be a residual stain on the stamp.  It will in no way affect the performance of the stamp nor will the color come off in another ink pad.

I cannot decide what size of Snap-Stamps to get – any suggestions?
The Large (1”) and Medium (1/2”) Snap-Stamps are ideal for titles, monograms and large words.  The Small (1/4”) and Mini (1/8”) are great for journaling, picture titles and dates but, one great feature of the Snap-Stamps is that the three smallest sizes of stamps will snap (lock) together.  Intermix the Medium, Small and Mini Snap-Stamps to create fun and funky words!

Are there any surfaces you can suggest stamping on?
We encourage you to try the Snap-Stamps on a variety of surfaces.  The Snap-Stamps are great for stamping on paper, cardstock, ribbon, ric rac and even Karen Foster Design Self-adhesive Twill.

How can I get my ink to dry faster?
If you want your ink to dry quickly, simply use a heat embossing tool to "quick set" your stamping. Apply heat for one minute, holding the tool 2 inches from your paper.

My ink has smeared, what should I do?
If, for some reason, your ink has smeared on a project, you can use a regular pencil eraser to remove the unwanted ink marks. Erase the unintended ink marks as you would a pencil mistake.

I can't ink the edges of my paper with the Double Decker Ink Pads. Is there a way I can do this?
Unfortunately the design of the Double Decker Ink Pads do not allow you do directly ink the edges or your paper or cardstock, although a simple makeup wedge can solve this problem. Dab the makeup wedge on the ink pad to soak up some ink, then use the wedge to ink the edges or your paper or any other material.

The Karen Foster Design ink colors are too intense for my project. How can I tone them down?
You can distress the ink in the Karen Foster Design Double Decker Ink Pads with a regular pencil eraser. After you have "quick set" your stamped ink with a heat embossing tool, rub your stamped ink lightly with a regular pencil eraser to create a worn look.

Is there a reason why there are scratches on my Metal Signs?
Yes! Metal Signs were manufactured to have a realistic look and feel so your Metal Signs may have scratches or other distress marks. To distress your Metal Signs even more, rub sand paper on the surface and around the edges of the sign for a worn look.
